Chargeable services
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire charges for additional services (over and above normal policing) at the specific request of a person, business or organisation.
These services are chargeable, as allowed for under Section 25 of the Police Act 1996 (as amended), Section 15 of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 and the Local Authority (Goods and Services) Act 1970. We follow the National Policing Guidelines on Charging for Police Services, which provides guidance on cost recovery. Common items for which charges are made, are listed in the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police Fees and Charges Handbook, updated regularly throughout the year. Charges are based upon recovering the cost of providing the services, in a cost neutral method.
Examples of chargeable services include:
- copies of accident reports
- copies of photographs
- copies of crime reports
- alarm registration fees
- traffic management charges
Provision of special police services on public land
The Chief Constable no longer fulfils requests for Section 25 provision of Special Police Services on public land, except in situations where police powers are required to undertake such services. It is recommended that event organisers engage non-police organisations to engage services that do not require police powers.
