Bedfordshire Police is appealing for witnesses after a stabbing in Bedford.
Officers were called just after 10.30pm last night (Tuesday) to Elstow Road, where they found a man with stab wound injuries. He was treated by ambulance staff and taken to hospital, where he is currently in a critical condition.
It is thought that he was attacked in the link road that runs between Elstow Road and Sandhurst Road over the railway line.
Five men on bikes and scooters were observed entering the link and then running out.
The link road remains closed as far as the footbridge while investigations continue.
Officers are carrying out house to house inquiries and further investigations.
Detective Inspector Clare Steel-Jessop of Bedfordshire Police said: “This was a very serious attack that has left a man fighting for his life.
“It’s extremely important that we trace the five men seen running away from the vicinity and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone who has information is asked to contact police online at https://www.beds.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/ or call 101 quoting incident 422 of 17 February.
