Two arrested following vehicle thefts in Flitwick

Two men have been arrested following multiple vehicle thefts and attempted thefts in Flitwick on Friday (7 August).

Officers pursued a suspected stolen motorbike after it failed to stop along the A6 and through Bedford on Sunday morning (9 August).

The motorbike was eventually abandoned and following a search of the area, two men were located in nearby bushes.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with a motor vehicle and numerous driving offences. He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs after suspected drugs were found in his pocket.

He was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, disqualified driving and driving without insurance, and yesterday (Monday) pleaded guilty to all three offences. He was sentenced to 36 weeks imprisonment.

He has been bailed for the theft and drugs offences while the investigation remains ongoing.  

A second man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, interfering with a motor vehicle, theft from person, possession of Class B drugs and being concern in the supply of controlled drugs. He has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue. 

Detectives investigating the vehicle theft offences are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, as well as anyone who believes they may have been a victim but has not yet spoken to police.

Detective Inspector Ben Searle said: “We are aware of footage circulating on social media and would urge anyone who has been affected, or with information or footage that could help our investigation, to report to us directly.

“Information from our communities is vital in helping us understand the full scale of what is happening, identify any links or patterns and build the evidence we need to take effective action.

“We recognise the impact that vehicle crime has on our communities, and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure anyone involved in this offending is held to account.”
