Appeal for information following robberies in Bedford

We have launched investigations into two robberies involving knives in Bedford on Wednesday 15 April.

The first incident occurred at around 5am near to the Tesco Extra Petrol Garage on Cardington Road.

Whilst a lorry driver was inside his vehicle, a man described as wearing a grey hooded top and a wolf-style face mask opened the vehicle door and demanded the driver hand over his wallet while holding a knife.

A second man was described as wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit with his hood up, concealing his face.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

A second robbery was reported to police just after 5.30am, after staff at a coffee shop in St John’s Street were threatened with a knife and told to hand over cash.

The suspect was described as a 5’6” man of dual heritage with a tattoo on his wrist saying “Shorna”.

The suspect also tied a black jumper around his face to hide it and wore a grey hat. He was then seen heading towards London Road following the incident.

Detective Inspector Lisa Scott from Bedfordshire Police’s Criminal Investigation Department said: “We currently do not believe that these two incidents are linked but are appealing to the public for any information that could help us identify those responsible for these brazen and frightening robberies.”
