Bedfordshire Police made six arrests during a week of action focused on drug-led crime and anti-social behaviour in Luton Town Centre.
By deploying specialist officers and working closely with partners from Luton Council, the force is supporting a concerted effort to ensure the town centre remains a safe and welcome place for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Significant results were delivered last week – with six arrests being made including three for drug supply offences and one for an outstanding warrant.
Officers also carried out several stop searches, six of which led to the recovery of Class A and Class B drugs, as well as cash being confiscated.
Multiple intelligence reports were submitted to support ongoing investigations.
Inspector Russell Goldsmith, from Bedfordshire Police, said: “The continued work from our officers and partners represents the ongoing commitment to improving safety in Luton Town Centre and disrupting criminal activity quickly and effectively.
“These results show the positive impact of focused, partnership-led enforcement.
“We will continue to take robust action against those who bring harm to the area, while working to increase public confidence and create a safer environment for everyone.”
Through increased uniformed presence, targeted enforcement, enhanced intelligence development and strong partnership working, the force is continuing its efforts to make the town centre a hostile place for drug users and dealers.
Councillor James Taylor, portfolio holder for Regeneration and Inclusive Growth at Luton Council, said: “We welcome this targeted action to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in the town centre and it is pleasing to see the week of action has made such an impact.
“Improving safety is one of the key drivers of the Luton Town Centre Task Force. We will continue to work with and support our key partners, including the police, in initiatives that will help to make the area a more welcoming place to visit.”
Let’s work #TogetherForBedfordshire and make our county a hostile place for criminals.
