Murder investigation launched after the death of a man near Langford

A murder investigation has been launched as detectives continue to carry out extensive enquiries following the death of a man near Langford in February.

Police were called just before 7.30am on Thursday 6 February this year to a report of a burnt-out vehicle, believed to be a Skoda Octavia, in a field close to the B659 Langford Road.

Upon attendance, officers discovered a body in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The victim was later identified as 47-year-old Jesbir Singh Khela, known to some as Jessy, from Letchworth in Hertfordshire.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Inwood from Bedfordshire Police said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jesbir, as this has been a very distressing time for them.

“Jesbir’s death was initially treated as unexplained whilst we carried out extensive enquiries, which included a forensic postmortem, a full examination of the vehicle remains and statements from the people who knew the victim.

“As a result of these enquiries, we have now opened a murder investigation into Jesbir’s death.

“We are continuing to work hard to establish the circumstances around what happened to Jesbir and would urge anyone who may have any information to get in touch with us.

“If you knew Jesbir and have information which could help, or if you witnessed suspicious activity on or around Langford Road overnight on Thursday 6 February, we want to hear from you.

“Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital to our enquiries.”
