Bedfordshire Police welcomes new recruits to its ranks

Twenty new police officers and staff members have successfully completed their initial training and are ready to serve and protect the communities of Bedfordshire.

Proud family and friends gathered to watch the force’s latest cohort of student officers graduate, after finishing 22 weeks of classroom-based training, at a passing out parade held last Friday (19 April).

The graduates come from a wide range of working backgrounds, including car salesman, law student and full-time mum, with the majority now working towards specialising as a detective.

For the next stage of their policing journeys, the cohort will move into the force’s Student Hub, where they will put their new skills and expertise into action on the streets of Bedfordshire under the guidance of experienced officers.

Four new radio agents, including a former paramedic and a former warehouse supervisor, have also passed their training and began their duties in the force’s control room this week.

These agents provide vital communication and coordination support to officers on the ground, ensuring the force’s ability to swiftly respond to emergencies.

Chief Inspector Chris Simmons from Bedfordshire Police’s People and Workforce team said: “Effectively serving and protecting our communities requires a diverse range of people, each with their own unique skills, backgrounds and experiences. The key trait needed among them is a drive to make a positive impact.

“Our new recruits have demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and commitment throughout their training, and we have every confidence that they will excel in their new roles and significantly contribute to the work we do to keep people safe.

The force is inviting people to Dunstable Police Station tomorrow (Saturday) to find out more about a career in policing.

There will be stalls, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to speak to current officers and staff about the roles available and routes in.

There is no requirement to book, just turn up to the event any time between 10am and 2pm.
