On Tuesday (11 July), officers and staff were awarded for their outstanding contributions to protecting the public of Bedfordshire.
Four people were awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation and a further four were awarded a long service and good conduct medal.
During the ceremony held at Headquarters in Kempston, officers were recognised for going above and beyond to secure convictions for serious offences whilst maintaining a strong and supportive relationship with victims. The event also celebrated those who have completed 20 years of service in various departments across the force.
An officer was commended for her pivotal role in a case which involved two separate victims who were both attacked by the same offender on separate dates in 2019.
The officer provided support to the officer in charge of the case by maintaining regular victim contact and support. The investigation was prolonged whilst the investigation team awaited the extradition of the suspect back to the UK and both victims showed their concerns with the length of time the process was taking. Through the officer’s regular contact with both victims, they maintained their support throughout the investigation up to and including sentencing.
The offender was sentenced to over 18 years imprisonment.
During the ceremony, a sergeant and three staff members also received their long service and good conduct medal. Serving a combined total of service of 80 years, each were appreciated for their dedication working across the force in a variety of departments, from support functions to offender management and investigation roles.
Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst said: “As Chief Constable it is incredibly important to me to recognise officers and staff during these ceremonies, and to be able to thank them for their outstanding service and contributions to protecting victim’s and our communities.
“I am incredibly proud of the people in our force and the work that they continue to do.
“Congratulations to you all.”
