Request under the freedom of information act 2000 ref no's: FOI2025/00172 and 00162.

I write in connection with your request for information received on 7th January.  I note you seek access to the following information:

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please can you provide the following information for the 2024 calendar year:

1. How many suspected banned or dangerous dogs were seized by police

2. How many of the seized dogs were suspected XL Bullies

3. How many banned or dangerous dogs were destroyed by police

4. How many of the destroyed dogs were XL Bullies

I am required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (The Act) to handle all requests in a manner that is blind to the identity of the requestor. Any information released in response to a request is regarded as being published and therefore, in the public domain without caveat.

Response: Following searches conducted within the collaborated dangerous dog Unit of the three forces, please find our response below:

3. Figures below include those cases where owners have requested Police assistance to remove a dog to vets for euthanasia:

4. Figures below dog may be removed direct to vets with consent of owner and never formally examined. Figures below are confirmed XL Bullies.

They include some cases where owners were granted a CDO but never applied for a certificate of exemption.
