Sorry, there was a technical problem. Please try again.
This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
We’re aware of an issue affecting the address finder on some forms. This is linked to a problem with an external service, which may mean you’re unable to complete your report or application at the moment. We’re monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as soon as possible. Please try again later. We apologise for any inconvenience.
We've worked hard to ensure our firearms licensing processes meet the latest statutory guidance. This has resulted in increased work for each new grant and renewal application, with additional checks and scrutiny required.
These changes, along with increased demand, have resulted in delays in granting applications. This also applies to variations, transfers, and updates.
We've increased the number of people who are working on the grants and renewal applications, and the introduction of new technology over the coming months will allow us to start reducing the processing times.
We've taken the decision to prioritise the resources to reviewing renewal applications.
The national service level expectation is that applications are processed within 120 days.
In Bedfordshire we're achieving this in 33.66% of cases.
We apologise and ask for your patience and understanding.
During this time:
Please note: We're aiming to respond to renewal applications in a timely manner. However, please be aware that you'll be committing an offence under the Firearms Act 1968 Section (1) if your certificate expires and you're still in possession of your weapon(s) and have not received notification of an extension.
Please help us by submitting renewal applications in a timely manner and ensure all applications are fully completed prior to submission.
The Home Office and the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) publish national data on firearms and explosives licensing. This data gives a clear and consistent picture of activity and performance across England and Wales.
You can find firearms certificate statistics on GOV.UK and NPCC publications under the Operations Coordination Committee section.
